Flying out of Ghosttown Int'l Airport

I'm off to NYC this weekend for the NYE weekend (NYE--incidentally, my
favorite holiday, because you have no choice but to observe
it...either way, come Jan 1 you'll be writing a new year on all your
paperwork) and my plane out of IND was delayed by an hour and a half
or so because the plane is late getting in. Apparently Indianapolis
isn't used to running late flights, because not only is the airport
completely dead, but I was actually the last person to go through
security on Concourse A tonight--which I know because after I and the
two other people (two!) in the security line went through, they closed
the big door-wall things to block off the whole concourse.

So I guess that's one reason to not wait til the last minute to head
to your gate, huh?

In other news, since this is one of the rare times I have a direct
flight (IND to NYC, in this case EWR to be specific, is the only
direct flight I ever get to take) I actually got to make use of the
mobile boarding pass for the first time ever. IND is apparently one of
the few airports in the country to offer it (yeah, weird...we just
renovated about two years ago). It was very awesome and
environmentally friendly; I just opened up a web link on my iPhone, it
displayed a boarding pass and I pressed it against a special scanner
at security. So if you're ever in a place where the mobile pass is an
option, do it. Cause technology is cool.

Close encounters of the TSA kind

I've got a little nest I built on a couch across from the car rental
stand, with my pillow and blanket and giant suitcase and whatnot. I
mean it wouldn't protect me out in the wild or anything, but it's
pretty good for what it is.

I normally don't (read: never) do this, but I briefly abandoned my
nest to run to the bathroom...I KNOW, you never leave stuff in an
airport unattended, and I wouldn't have this time except my suitcase
is huge and I'm sitting right next to the bathroom anyway. Plus I
figure the car rental people have been enviously staring at my nest
for the last hour, they won't let anyone steal my shit.

Welllll I'm gone for like 90 seconds, come back to my nest and there
are two TSAers eyeballing it suspiciously. They ran off when I plopped
back down in my spot, but still...really, TSA?Really? You think I hid
explosives in a giant, really obvious suitcase and then planted it in
front of Avis car rental...in the Syracuse airport?

I expect an adventure when I go through security this evening. Good
thing I'll be here longer than a TSA shift lasts.

Home, sweet...airport.

The semester is finally over and my flight to Indiana departs Syracuse
at 7:53pm. So here I am, waiting at the airport.

...it is currently 8:34. In the morning.

Well, it was either chill at Hancock Int'l for 12 hours pre-flight or
pay $150 for a taxi. I went with the free ride and long wait. Let's be
honest, if I took a cab, I'd just spend 12 hours sitting in my house
watching TV anyway. Might as well watch Netflix on the free wifi at
the airport, right?
